An old logjam of news has once again burst free, and we are being deluged with news from last month that we've all seen before. Erik Fair was the first to report the problem, and has located the log jam. However, the news has already gotten loose and there is nothing we can do to keep it from circulating. I am posting this so we won't see another deluge of articles in various newsgroups saying "Gee, I think some old news is coming around. Does anyone know why?" Such queries accomplish nothing, and just provide even more uninteresting news to wade through. Readnews and vnews give the date on each article they offer you. If you see an article dated in Feb, you can just type n. You'll see plenty of such articles over the next few days, I'm sorry to say. If someone wants to make the necessary modifications to expire to prevent this problem (by keeping history for a longer time, even when the articles themselves are expired) it will make a valuable addition to the news software. If you want to discuss this, please confine the discussion to net.news. Mark Horton
