I am pleased to announce to the UUCP community, a project that is currently underway to map the UUCP network. This project is being funded by the Usenix Association, for the benefit of the entire UUCP community. A copy of the full proposal is available in net.mail. This proposal was approved at the early April meeting of the Usenix Board. In addition to the mapping effort, we hope to make several pieces of mail routing software available as a part of this project. I will be posting monthly progress reports to net.mail, and will be happy to answer any questions and accept comments about the project. We will also be giving significant progress reports at the Usenix meeting in Salt Lake City in June. I would also like to encourage everyone to cooperate with our data collection efforts that are underway. Rob Kolstad (convex!kolstad) and Scott Bradner (wjh12!sob) will be contacting UUCP sites to gather contact and connection information. These requests are being sent to site!root and site!uucp when no other contact information is available. If your site has not received a form, please fill out the form that I am posting to net.mail and send it to either Rob (sites beginning with letters a-m) or Scott (sites beginning with letters n-z or other odd characters).
