[net.announce] Tech Report Lists are Now Being Electronically Distributed

leff@smu.uucp (Laurence Leff) (01/07/86)

Mod.techreports, a new group on USENET, is for the electronic
redistribution of technical report lists from Universities and R&D
labs. These reports cover subjects as practical as Kermit protocols
and a tutorial on Setuid programs in UNIX to as theoretical as formal
automata results. A large portion of these reports are research results
that have not yet been formally published so this is a source of highly
current information. It is not limited to lists concerning computers and
computer science although the majority of submissions will probably be
about computer science.

Any organization publishing tech reports should e-mail a copy of the list to
{allegra|ihnp4|research}!dj3b1!convex!smu!tr-list. It is preferable
that these be in bib/refer format so that receivers can put the lists
directly into a machine accessable bibliography but I would prefer a
weird format to not having the information go out at all. Abstracts
are optional. Also please include some information on how people can
request versions of the entire reports.

If any organization wishes to send their report lists to me in lieu
of mailing them to various organizations, I can provide lists of
educational institutions on the net that would be receiving the
electronic version. We also have a CSNET, INTERNET version going that reaches
sites not on USENET.
