The word "plied" shares the property of Steve Hayman's 9 reasonably common but Interesting Words of being composed of 5 or more letters in reverse alphabetical order. Whether or not this spoiling of the spoiler spoils Steve's word puzzle, a related question may be of interest. (No, its not about dangling clauses.) Does there exist a word of, say, 5 or more letters in reverse alphabetical order which is also a word when spelled backwards? The word "tog" is a 3-letter example. The word "lied" is a 4-letter example, though "deil" is Scottish and hence not a common word. I'll post one if I ever find one. John Kitchin AT&T Bell Labs, WB1H214 Holmdel, NJ
