[net.puzzle] New puzzle -- Rinsing

trough@ihuxa.UUCP (Chris Scussel) (02/28/84)

You have two identical glasses, one full of water, the other full of milk.
You want to rinse the milk from the one glass using the water from the other.
You can dump out the milk, but a film of milk remains. In fact, each time
you dump out the glass a small (but constant) amount of milk (or milk/water
mixture) remains in it. What is the best strategy for rinsing the glass?
Note that best implies minimum amount of milk left in the glass. Assume
that
each time water is poured into the milk glass the contents are stirred into
homogeneity.

If you wish, assume that the water glass will empty completely,
so that you can use the full amount of rinse water. Or not, as you prefer.
