I don't like these "next term in the series" puzzles.  For one thing,
one can get any term he wishes for the next term if he fits the series
using enough parameters.

This brings up the very important issue of how one defines the "simplest"
model for some domain of knowledge.  I know of only two schools of
thought on this, the "shortest program for a universal computer" school
and Einstein's "asymptotic degrees of freedom".  Are there any others?
