Sorry gang, but in the puzzle I posted about the game of life ... [brief reminder: infinite grid of bits, some on, some off ... ... live bits are germs ... 0 or 1 neighbor --> death ... ... 3 neighbors --> birth ... 4 neighbors --> death] Each location has EIGHT neighbors (not four)! The Game of Life is treated definitively in Chapter 24 (volume 2) of Winning Ways, Berlekamp, Conway and Guy, Academic Press, 1982 John Jarvis Actually Chpt 25. Chpt 24 is about the Rubik's Cube. Any remaining Cube fanatics out there?
