[net.puzzle] yet another puzzle

     There is a garbage truck with a fly on it that is 20 miles away
from a junkyard. The truck travels at 40 mph straight to the junkyard
without stopping. The fly travels at 60 mph going to the junkyard,
back to the truck, to the junkyard, back to the truck, and so forth
until the truck reaches the dump. How far does the fly travel? How did you
come up with this answer?

                           ** GOOD LUCK **

  P.S. please send responses soon.
       I will post answer in about
       a week.

A rather old one but I'll answer it anyway.....

	ignoring which direction the fly is moving at any given time!
	and assuming it can turn around and resume flying at 60mph in
	NO TIME (i.e. an instant )

	the truck is moving at 40mph for 20 miles therefore 1/2 hour.
	a fly moving 60mph for 1/2 hour covers 30 miles! (simple)

	UNTIL REALITY TAKES HOLD.....

	for that I need details of the fly's acceleration and some
	calculus ( which I have forgotten :-> )
