OK, here's a theory for the concentric rings of bubble-holes when you cook rice. You are most probably cooking the rice on an electric range, whose heating element has concentric circles (actually a spiral, but a close enough approximation to circles). That is the point that will get hottest, and hence that is where the water boils. = Sanjay
