[net.misc] Need Magician to Help Evaluate Psychic

steiny@scc.UUCP (Don Steiny) (01/25/85)

**

I have a friend that is going to "model" some psychics (notably
Uri Geller). My friend has an open mind and is interested whatever it is
that they do. He is interested in talking to James Randi.
Does anyone know of a phone number or address where my friend might
be able to contact Randi?

I have noticed several discussions in the recent past
about Randi, I am hoping someone knows how to get in touch
with him.

	Thanks in advance.

For situations along these general lines, contact "The Skeptical Inquirer".
From a recent edition, this:

Inquiries from the media and the public about the work of the
Committee [for Scientific Investigation of Claims of the
Paranormal] should be made to Paul Kurtz, Chairman, CSICOP, Central
	Park Station, Box 229, Buffalo, NY 14215; (716) 834-3222.

I don't know how to contact Randi directly, but he may be contacted through
the magazine "The Skeptical Inquirer" at:

     James Randi
     c/o The Skeptical Inquirer
     3025 Palo Alto Drive N.E.
     Albuquerque, NM 87111

The Skeptical Inquirer is the official journal of the Committee for the
Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal. James Randi is listed
as a "Fellow of the Committee" and also as a member of the editorial board
of the Inquirer itself.

If nothing else, the Skeptical Inquirer itself might be able to give you
many good pointers - all from the point of view of debunking charlatans, of
course!

P.S. - Don't flame me for posting instead of mailing the reply - I'm trying
give visibility to a good journal doing what I believe is an important
task in today's society - debunking the pseudoscience and cr*p spread
in liberal quantities by rags like OMNI to respected sources like The
New York Times (on occasion). Subscriptions are $16.50/year for four
