Here is a possible format for playing the mystery game over the net. Since it will be impossible to get everyone to agree on any particular method, I strongly suggest that we go with the following so we can start playing the game ASAP. Until then, please stop posting mysteries to the net so you don't give many away. - A narrator posts the puzzle to the net. - The players ask questions via MAIL, and at the end of the week the narrator will post the questions and the answers to the questions on NET.PUZZLE. - The narrator will append a list of those people who have correctly answered the puzzle, but will NOT post the answer itself. If a player gives up, the narrator will send him/her the answer via MAIL. - Several puzzles will be 'active' at the same time, but the narrator(s) will limit the postings to the net in order to keep the net from being flooded. This solution (credit to Eric from Maynard) seems to be the most viable. It will keep the questions and answers from flooding the net, and everyone will be able to enjoy the puzzles without prematurely getting the answers. We will need a moderator to select the narrators. Only one narrator should be getting questions regarding one particular puzzle. Because of the delay over the net (weeks for some people) we would end up with too many narrators if we didn't have someone pick just one. Also, I think it would be wise to limit the number of 'active' puzzles to around 3-5. The moderator would be responsible for this. Since I started this thing in the first place, and since I am getting inundated with new puzzles and requests for my mystery list, I volunteer to be the moderator (but not a narrator). If you would like to be a narrator, write to me (via MAIL) and ask. Include the puzzle you wish to narrate. I will write back and select a narrator. There are many of these puzzles, so I'm sure everyone who wishes to be a narrator will have a chance. (Please don't ask to be a narrator unless you are serious enough to devote the time required to compile all the questions you receive.) In the mean time, I think everyone else should stop posting mysteries to the net in order not to give away the puzzles. Again, if you want a copy of my list, simply write to me and ask for one. If anyone has any suggestions/comments regarding this arrangement, please let me know. -- ...ucbvax!\ -Pete Olpe- \ UUCP Path: ...decwrl!decvax!trwrb!trwrba!pro / ...hplabs!/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Where are we going?
