I just received my copy of the logitech modula-2 compiler version 2.0 . Time hasn't allowed me to make any significant tests, yet, but the first glance impresses. The documentation is full and generally clear. The libraries and builtins supplied seem intended to give full access to MSDOS and the i8088, as well as all the modula-2 capabilities envisaged by Wirth. Almost all addressing is 32bit. Access to memory beyond 640K is provided, though. As Bob Nagler remarked, small systems are slowed by high file overhead, because of the 4-pass compiler, and the .MOD .DEF .LNK .SYM .REF .LOD .LIS files used. Also, when I compiled a "hello, world!" program as a test, the linker ran out of memory on my 256Kb Corona. Shucks, I was going to upgrade RAM soon, anyway. :-) The syntax-oriented editor sent with it looks nice, but just blanked my screen and hung. I phoned their BBS number, and left a complaint after reading their news and downloading a file. A couple of days later, Someone responded to the note and offered to send the source for the screen-writing module, for me to tweak for my almost-compatible display. Talk about service.... They deserve some kudos. vincent broman, code 632, naval ocean systems center, san diego, ca 92152, usa phone: +1 619 225 2365 starship: 32d 42m 22s n/ 117d 14m 13s w arpa: broman@nosc.mil uucp: {sdcsvax,gould9,bonnie,hp-sdd}!noscvax!broman
