PATTIS@WASHINGTON.ARPA (Richard Pattis) (07/09/86)
In a (not quite so) recent note to info-modula-2, I wrote about a new Modula-2 book; I also included a problem that pertained to one of the example functions shown in that book - a trichotomous comparision of two strings. I have finally finished my solution, a (too) far ranging discussion of some of the issues relating Modula-2 style to Pascal style, and an annotated collection of the solutions submitted by people responding to the original message. Later today I will send a note to info-modula-2 containing all these materials. The batch comes to about 800 lines of text, so be forewarned. I am not sure if Dr. Sale can be reached by network connections, so I have mailed him a copy of the note. If he replies to me, I have offered to key in his response and mail it to info-modula-2. The whole purpose of this exercise was to be critical; so (1) please assume that all my declaratives are prefaced by "I believe that", and (2) please be critical of anything that I wrote. If anyone wants to discuss this topic further, please reply either to me directly, or to the net - for more general discussions. Thanks for your patience. Rich -------
