Could someone please tell me how to keep a piece of wood from splitting? I have a round piece of walnut (cut cross the tree) that I would like to use to make a clock. I do not want the wood to split as it becomes drier. Hands and numbers will be attached to the front of the clock and the motor will be on the back. After this is done, I then assume some kind of varnish will be applied. Or the varnish might ought to be applied before the hands and numbers are mounted. Will the varnish be enough to keep the wood from splitting any more? Sorry to sound so vague about the project. I have not done this before, but have seen them for sale and want one from my piece of walnut. Any suggestions? -- Sharon Geddis -- 919-228-4913 (Cornet 291) ...![ floyd sb1 mhuxv ]!burl!smg
