I recently finished my first kit from the Bartley Collection (IL). They make high quality reproductions, both assembled and kits. For example, the piece I made was a solid mahogony reproduction of a Queen Anne candle table from Greenfield Village. In the Bartley instructions, they specifically recommend *against* wiping off excess glue while wet. They have you take it off (sandpaper, wood chisel, or razor-blade) after it has dried. Their reason is that wiping off the wet glue tends to force it into the wood grain, sealing it, and causing light spots in the stained surface. I did as they recommended, and it worked quite well - not exactly easily (I hated to wave a sharp instrument at all that effort), but with good results. -andy kegel, AT&T Bell Labs, Naperville, IL, ...!ihnp4!ihuxq!agk P.S. I also like oak, but I wish it weren't so blasted hard.
