[] Last night I picked up a used Sears Craftsman 8" radial arm saw. I'd say it's about 10 years old, but it was rarely used (judging by the lack of cut marks on the table overlay - no mitres, only a few crosscuts). It has a 2 amp universal motor (as opposed to an induction motor) that spins at 5000rpm. My question is, what's the difference between these motor types in terms of: 1) start torque and current, 2) operating current, and 3) power? And why can't you use the adjustable dado blades with it - is it because start torque is too low (heavy blades)? Oh - the price was..$65 Canadian!!! Good deal, I thought! --- Brian Doody, Univ Of Waterloo Waterloo, Ontario bcdoody@wateng ---
