[net.rec.wood] Chisels

lef@nlm-vax.ARPA (Larry Fitzpatrick) (01/11/85)

I am in need of a set of chisels and am wondering if anyone could
recommend (positively or negatively) any brands in particular.
My needs are for light carpentry and general woodworking ( I work
on my house but also do some basic furniture). Thanks in advance.

I have a set of Marples "Blue Chip" bevel-edge chisels, and am quite
satified. The chisels have a molded blue plastic handle (hence the name)
in a squarish shape, which I find comfortable. The plastic holds up
well to hammer blows, and is cheaper than wooden handles. A set of 5
from 1/4" to 1" generally costs about $30. The steel is good, although
not connoisseur quality.
