Could someone tell me what "tilting arbor" means? All I know is that it is an additional feature on some table saws. I think I can guess what it is, but I was hoping someone could tell me exactly what it means (does). John Schantz Bellcore 201-758-2148

>Could someone tell me what "tilting arbor" means? >All I know is that it is an additional feature >on some table saws. "Arbor" is from the French word "arbre," meaning "tree." "Tilting arbor" means that the saw can be used to cut wood from trees that grew at an angle. :-) Actually, "tilting arbor" refers to the way the saw makes angled cuts (like for mitered joints). On a "tilting arbor" saw, the blade tilts; on others, the table tilts while the blade stays vertical. For large workpieces, it's unwieldy to have the table tilted. -- Matt Fichtenbaum "Our job is to rescue fires, not put out your cat."
