[net.rec.wood] twig furniture

Has anyone tried making twig furniture ??
I'm going to attempt it and was hoping for some tips.
What kinds of wood did you use ? I am planning to use maple.
Did you tie or nail it together ? Did you try any bending of the
branches to form curves or did you just piece them together.

Also, I'd be interested in hearing some opinions regarding what
you think of twig for decorating. My husband thinks I'm reverting
to the stone ages and calls me Wilma !! If I am, it's only that
I find a certain satisfaction in things made by hand, in these
high tech times.

Thanks,
Karen Curran

There was a very good piece on twig furniture in the Washington
Post's Home section this week, with wonderful color pictures of vintage
Appalachian pieces as well as modern pieces by New York designers (La Lune
is the name, I think). They featured pieces of maple, birch and willow and
they were all very attractive - I was much taken with them, and certainly
would not minding having a few pieces myself (the chairs are particularly
nice). Please keep us up to date on your progress, I'd love to hear about it.
