[net.rec.wood] Ryobi 10 Planer

dave@fluke.UUCP (Dave Van Ess) (09/25/85)

I just saw an ad for thr Ryobi 10 planer. Woodworker's Supply in New Mexico
is selling them for $495. Does anyone used one of these planers or knows
anything about them? Thanks in advance.

ps	I am not interested in hearing about Taiwanese copys of the Delta
planer.	Glizzley Imports is only an hour up the road.

Dave, it's not clear to me whether you are against Grizzly or Taiwanese
imports or both. If it's the tools, there are some good and some bad. I've
seen a lot of Taiwanese junk and also some fairly good items. I bought an
AMT import clone of the Rockwell 6 inch jointer and been extremely well
pleased. Tables and fences ground true and flat and brought to a higher
level of finish than Rockwell at one third the price. The only problem
was that the blades were junk beyond repair and easily remedied with
a $21 replacement set from another manufacturer.

No flames please about buying American as I do have a few large American
Rockwell stationary tools including their thickness planer that is *made
in Brazil*.

On the other hand, if your implied flame is about Grizzly, I'm sure the
rest of us on the net would be interested in your comments or warnings.

In my first article I did not wish imply anything about import copy tools.
I have alot of information about these taiwanese tools and with Grizzly
just up the road it's easy for me to get those questions answered. What
I want is information about the Ryobi planer. It was hoping to avoid an
large dicussion about the advantages and disadvantage of taiwanese tools.
What it seems I have done is confused the issue. Sorry.
