[net.misc] Hydrogen Fuel Cells

wetcw@pyuxa.UUCP (T C Wheeler) (03/28/85)

Apologies for the mess sent before.

On the subject of hydrogen, does anyone have any
REAL information on Fuel Cells? You know, the
gadgets being used aboard space craft to supply
electricity. Like the one that blew the side
out of Apollo 13.

From what I could gather from a guy I used
to work with (he once worked at a plant where
they were built and tested), they could be the answer
to the energy problems. YET, if you want a
suppression conspiracy, this is one that sure
could qualify. Not only would the power
companies and oil companies dislike this
idea, the Gummint would also be likely to
hold the gadget out of public use.

Any discussion from those would know
about this type of energy source?

Why would the oil & power companies dislike this idea?
Somebody has to manufacture and distribute the hydrogen. If
there were much merit to the technology, I would expect to see
these companies investing in it, not supressing it.

Speaking of real... I believe that the Apollo 13 explosion was due
to a ruptured gas tank. The filaments of a spherical tank failed,
the bladder matrix ruptured and the side of the craft was breached.

However, of all references to start out a discussion of fuel cells,
why pick on an explosive failure only circumstantially related to
fuel cells? Further, that was 17 or so years ago. I believe the
devices have improved since then.

Does this really belong in net.misc???
