[net.rec.wood] Table Saws

davef@sftig.UUCP (C.D.Francis) (02/24/86)

I'm in the market for a tablesaw. I currently own a Sears 10 inch
radial arm saw and I hate it. I've looked mostly at the Rockwell
line and INCA. What type of saws do people own and what would you
recommend?

"Fine Woodworking" apparently has done evaluations of table saws. I borrowed
some issues of the magazine and therein read letters from readers about such
things as Korean table saws marketed by Grizzly (Bellingham, WA). As I recall,
one reader purchased such a saw for commercial use. He much preferred it to
the Sears saw which 'has been receiving so much attention' (apparently a
reference to previous issues' letters/articles). He said it was not built as
'solidly' as the Rockwell (aka Delta) contractor's saw, but then it costs
half as much! (rumor has it, and I emphasize RUMOR, that such a Korean machine
marketed by Grizzly is ~$350.00).

I am in the same situation, daily searching the classifieds for a used Rockwell
contractor's saw in mint condition for $500, and wondering what alternatives I
have in the brand-spanking new market. I am pursuing the line of information
in "Fine Woodworking", you might want to do the same. Would you please post
a response to this base note documenting your knowledge and opinions of the
Rockwell and Inca products you mention? I would appreciate that :-)
