The OLD option does not control A format, it controls pre 2.9 B format. If you don't define OLD, your B headers won't include Article-I.D. nor Posted. You can still generate A format. So it isn't necessary to recompile. While I hope the net.adm.site scheme will turn up useful results (I especially encourage you to include your Latitude and Longtitude, as that would be useful for geographic map generating programs: I know it's a pain to look up, but please take a couple minutes, or at least copy it from a nearby site that has already posted it) I would like to point out that a proposal has been put before Usenix to sponsor an ongoing UUCP map effort. Currently heavily involved are Karen Summers-Horton, Lauren Weinstein, Rob Kolstad, and Scott Bradner. If you are interested in participating in this (we're going to need some small programs written, and some work in collecting data) or, if your organization might be interested in donating a small UNIX machine, please let us know.

I've been following the posting of site information by individual sites, and think that getting this information passed around is a great idea, but I do have a problem with the format. The current format is to post one article per site. I've got over 100 sites I can post the information for directly. There are over 600 Bell System sites in the NAC registry here I could also post some information about. What I'd like to do is post one article per subnet (various LANs, uucp connections, etc.), giving connection information within each subnet, and also listing major gateway(s) into each subnet and which sites they talk to. What format should it be posted in? Can the `recsite' script be modified to recognize whatever format we come up with? Pathalias can handle subnets, so the information should still be usable by everyone. Any ideas? -- Tom Clark, BTL IH, ihnp4!tsclark, (312) 979-2620
