There has been a change in the way map co-ordination is handled on the network. In the past, when a map entry was sent to cbosgd!uucpmap, all regional map co-ordinators received a copy of the message. For about a month now, map entries sent to cbosgd!uucpmap have come to me. I have been dispersing them to the appropriate regional co-ordinator after doing some initial validation checks with the map registry. Because of this change, a problem that existed for some time came to light in a rather sudden way. One day, I received a message from one of the regional co-ordinators. He asked why he continually received entries for systems outside of his region. This question touched off a series of messages within the UUCP Map Project Group. When the smoke cleared, we discovered that a) there was a misunderstanding between the regional co-ordinator and the Project as to what constitutes the region b) that before I took on the task of dispersing maps, some updates for the affected region were ignored and c) after I started dispersing the maps, some updates for the region found their way into the bit bucket. Well, now that we've worked out the bugs it seems like a good time to ask those sites in the affected region to send in new map entries. Actually, map entries sent to us after the 22nd of August have not been lost. All others in the region should immediately send a new map entry to cbosgd!uucpmap. The region in question includes the states of Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota. The region also includes the state of New York and all of Canada. However, map entries for New York and Canada have been handled appropriately. So, if you were wondering why your entry never made it into the map distribution, well now you know - and so do we. Let's hope it won't happen again..... -- -Mel Pleasant uucp: ...{harvard, seismo, ut-sally, sri-iu, ihnp4!packard}!topaz!pleasant arpa: PLEASANT@RUTGERS
