I would like to draw peoples attention to a recent article in the Advocate
issue 383/384, dated December 22 on page 10. The article goes into recent
comments made by presidential candidate Sen. John Glenn on his opposition
toward "the federal government to extend the reach of Title VII of the Civil
Rights Act to govern those questions of personal conviction." In simpler
terms, Glenn apposes federal protection or promotion of gay rights. This
is a direct opposition to HR 2624 and S 430 which would add the the words
"sexual orientation" to the catagories currently protected under Title VII.
I think Glenn's position becomes extremely apparent from his statement,
"Nor would I do anything as president that could be interpreted as
advocacy or promotion of homosexuality".

Glenn's statements are causing concern within the party since his
followers may be preparing to oppose the inclusion in the Democratic
platform of a plank endorsing the federal gay rights bill.

I am president of the Fort Collins Gay and Lesbian Alliance and our
organization intends to respond to Sen. Glenn's comments with
appropriate correspondence. I hope some of the readers of this note
shall do the same.
