I just read a book that I thought gave a lot of insight into the feelings of gay people. Since I'm not gay, I guess I can't be sure that the book's portrayal of gay women was realistic, but I found it quite convincing. The book was about two 17-year-old girls who meet and fall in love. Their feelings about each other and about being gay are discussed, as well as the reactions of their families, peers, and teachers. I think this would be a good book for people who don't understand gayness to read, because it emphasizes the loving, caring relationship between the two girls. After you read it, it may be more difficult for you to think of homosexuality as "wrong". The relationship portrayed in this book resembles a heterosexual relationship in many ways, but it has its own special differences and problems. It is clear, however, that the problems arise mostly from society's view of homsexuality, and not from the girls themselves. The book is called "Annie on my Mind". It's by Nancy Garden. The publisher is Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. The book was written for teenagers, but adults could certainly get something out of it. Nomi Harris rabbit!nomi
