[net.misc] Do we boot Big Boy? tartare sauce

davet@oakhill.UUCP (Dave Trissel) (04/16/85)

Since we're on the topic of Big Boy so much: last year in LA I stopped in a
Bob's expecting to enjoy a Big Boy Sandwich just like I used to have as a kid
at Frisch's in Dayton Ohio. I bit into the sandwich and what a shock!
Instead of tartare sauce there was this red gunk. So fans, my question is
"which Big Boy's use which type of sauce?"

The original Big Boy restaurant was started by Bob Wian in Glendale, Cal.
in the 1930's. The Bob's chain quickly spread throughout the LA area.
Bob franchised the Big Boy trademark and recipes to other chains
throughout the US. The original Big Boy hamburger uses a red pickle
relish. Anyone using tartar sauce is violating the santity of the
original recipe and should be shot or have his franchise revoked,
which ever is more painfull. The Bob's chain was purchased by
Marriot some years ago and have been involved in expansion.
They have built two Bob's Big Boy restaurants in the Portland
area in the last few years. They also purchased a number of Vip's
restaurants and are converting them to Big Boy's. This week
the local Vip's became a Bob's.
As for the the quality, I would say it has definitely taken a
down hill slide since Bob ran things.
I say keep the Big Boy 'cause I grew up with him.
Now lets jump into the roadster and cruise Bob's Van Nuys
and Toluca Lake.
