[net.motss] Mr. Arndt's rantings

evans@wivax.UUCP (Barry Evans) (09/10/84)

Below are some quotes from 'some' of Ken Arndt's recent articles,
followed by my comments and questions.

> = Ken Arndt
  = Me

>"We need cures, comfort for those afflicted, behavior changes (promiscuous
>behavior), a rethinking of the "party line" about gay lifestyles, and a
>willingness to face the fact that if not "God" or "Nature" something is
>leaving a message that there is a "Serpent in Paradice"."
Gay "party line" lifestyles? Ken, please explain that one, ok?
So you think that God (or nature) is trying to give us a message? Let
me ask you this... Do you think that God would have let homosexuality
exist if he didn't want it to? Or, wouldn't nature have filtered out
homosexuality by now? It's had millions of years to do so...
Maybe it's just a safety valve for overpopulation, it's better
than starvation, disease, and war, and doesn't "hurt" anyone.

>"But then don't try to say to the "straight" world, "Hey, look we're ok and
>should be accepted as a minority with protected rights"! ...
>You refuse to do what other minorities have done to be accepted - go through
>an extended period of defense and dialog with those who did not accept them."
Well, I don't know about other people on the net, but I don't
consider myself part of a "minority". I am a person, just like everyone
else, who eats, sleeps, works, and is capable of love. All I ask is
that I'm not treated any different than anybody else just because of
	who I love.

>"Of course I hate you all."
(Just another example of where Ken is coming from, in case you
	didn't already know.)

>"Don't you realize that the country is turning back to traditional values?
>I just know that I'm going to wind up hiding a cellar full of you fruits
>from the police in a few years."
Are YOU dreaming? *Prove* to me that this country is turning more
traditional. The second part of this latest statement is just
another example of... (and, I might add, a POOR choice of words)

>"Now is NOT the time to come out!"
Since when have you become the expert!?! Now is probably just as
good a time as any, maybe even better.

>"Your statements ASSUME gay is ok and I don't buy that point."
Great. You don't buy it? Tough luck. Since when do we have to
justify our love for another person to you or anyone else.
Your statements assume gay is NOT ok? I don't buy that. Being
gay means that a person loves other persons who are of the same
sex. So, what's wrong with that? Hey, how's this for a definition of
	Love...

		Corinthians 13:4-8

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love
does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always
protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love
		never fails."

Ken, let me say something. To me, you clearly have something against
gays. I don't know what it is or why. Maybe you had a bad
experience, or you have your own inner doubts, or maybe you're just
extremely misinformed. You condemn us, you insult us, you say we're
immoral, you even put the blame on us. You twist things around to make
your arguments sound more convincing, you tell jokes in bad tastes, and
you always seem to insert snide and insulting comments whenever you write
your articles. Well, I, for one, am asking you to stop this. You probably
won't. A while ago you said you were leaving us for good - but you came
back just as strong as ever but you claim to be restraining yourself.
Sure, you make some good points and you add texture to this net. I'm not
asking you to stop posting or asking questions or participating in
the discussions, I'm just asking you to do so with an open mind. Will
you at least try? If you cannot then please just go away, because
(and I believe I speak for many others) we won't be listening.

I've said enough.

Since Ken seems to be the ONLY one who doesn't understand that he's wrong,
please DON'T respond to his articles on the net. If you MUST respond to
him, please use private mail. I just got my new Macintosh a little while ago
and don't have fire insurance on it yet.

It appears to me that there's only one way to bring constructive conversation
back to this newsgroup:

Why alienate a provocative antagonist? Ken Arndt is no doubt very
opinionated and his opinions are not popular ones (at least in this
newgroup!) but for the most part his views seem somewhat based on informed
opinion and research rather than strictly on emotional reaction.

Anyway, his views have more substance than the religous maunderings
of the Falwell types that deluged this newsgroup last time.
