Some time back there was a request in this newsgroup for information on gay culture in other countries. The other day I ran into a possible source for such information which may interest some of you. It was an ad in a magazine which ran like this: FORUMO estas la dimonata bulteno de Ligo de Samseksamaj Geesperantistoj. ^Gi enhavas gejajn nova^jojn, anoncetojn kaj opiniojn el la tuta mondo. Petu informojn ^ce: Geja Emancipi^go Po^stfako 399 NL-3740 A J Baarn Nederlando In (rather literal) English: FORUM is the bimonthly bulletin of the League of Homosexual Esperantists. It contains gay news, announcements and opinions from the entire world. Ask for information at: Gay Emancipation PO Box 399 NL-3740 A J Baarn The Netherlands The ad and the magazine are written in Esperanto, a constructed language intended for international use (for example, for organizations and magazines like the ones above). Some of us have been discussing Esperanto lately in net.nlang, so I won't bore you with details; suffice it to say that Esperanto is far easier to learn than any national language and picking up enough to read a magazine can be accomplished in a few weeks. The first lesson of a free postal course has already been posted to net.nlang. For more information on Esperanto, feel free to send me mail; for more information on Geja Emancipi^go, write to the address above. --- Prentiss Riddle ("Aprendiz de todo, maestro de nada.") --- {ihnp4,harvard,seismo,gatech,ctvax}!ut-sally!riddle --- riddle@ut-sally.UUCP, riddle@ut-sally.ARPA, riddle@zotz.ARPA
