[net.motss] Articles on Judaism and homosexualities

mf@cornell.UUCP (mf) (04/02/85)

The best article *by far* in the list I posted is:

Orbach, William, "Homosexuality and Jewish law," Journal
of family law, vol. 14, no. 3, pp. 353-381, 1975-76.

which surveys the attitudes in traditional Judaism, from early
biblical times, though Mishnaic and Talmudic eras, down to our
times (incl. recent responsa, laws in Israel etc...). It is the
first well-informed (and, incidentally, ``non-judgemental'') text I
see on the subject (Boswell notwithstanding).

My only disagreement is with his conclusions (prospects for change)
but then they do not detract in any way from the very valuable other
parts.
