Greetings MOTSS'ers! I have come to you all for some help. I am working on the publicity committee of the Boston area Gay and Lesbian Speaker's Bureau (GLSB). We are looking for more ways to make ourselves known and get people to ask us to come and speak to their organizations. So far we are: * developing a press release to send to local newspapers * planning a mailing (and follow up phone calls) to colleges with "human sexuality" courses (or related courses) * trying to contact the Massachusettes Gay Teachers Association * contacting a reporter from the GLOBE (our leading daily paper) * using all our other contacts in "professional" organizations such as nurses, social workers, etc to find places to speak. It is really an up hill battle. We have only one paid staff person, and she works part time (for very little money). One of our goals is also to reach personnel people in corporations. Our thoughts were that maybe we could get into corporations to discuss gay issues with managers and increase their awareness that the needs and life situations of some of their employees is different because of their sexual perference. Given that many of us on this net work in corporate settings, I'd really like to hear what you think of this idea, and if you think whether or not we have a snowball's chance in hell of achieving that goal. Anyone out there think that *their* company is ready for the GLSB to come in and give a talk?? We'd also appreciate any thoughts and ideas on other places to approach which would be good for us to contact. If you know specifically about any groups which might like to have us, please let me know that too. We are located in the Boston area, and will travel up to 100 miles to speak. We do charge a fee, to them what's got, and are flexible to them what's not got. Either post responses here, or mail them to me directly, and I'll try to summerize. Many thanks in advance! ****andrea mason**** UUCP: decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-pneuma!mason ARPA: mason%pneuma.DEC@decwrl.ARPA ************************************************************************* DISCLAIMER: GLSB has nothing to do with my employer; my employer probably feels the same way about GLSB ;-} *************************************************************************
