I recently picked up Eric Rofes' book describing his experiences
teaching in a posh suburban school outside of Boston, called
"Socrates, Plato and Guys like Me," published by Alyson Press.
Rofes is a fairly well-known gay activist in the Boston area,
and this book does a good job describing his double life as a
grammar school teacher and activist in the late 70's, and the
inspiring way that he managed to integrate these two very separate
parts of his life. While this is no work of art--Rofes is more a
politician than a stylist--it has drama and empathy and understanding.

I found it a wonderful read--picked it up after work and didn't
put it down until later in the evening.
