It's worth noting the rather unpredictable behavior of the Massachusetts voter who can vote in an Ed King, but at the same time, as Tony Wuersch point out, elect Barney Frank over Peg Heckler, or even more dramatically, reelect Gerry Studds by a landslide. I think Purbrick wasn't trying to rationalize Dukakis' behavior, just trying to discern a rational basis for it. Unfortunately, facts seem to indicate that, properly handled, the Globe story could have been a political non-issue. -- /Steve Dyer {decvax,linus,ima,ihnp4}!bbncca!sdyer sdyer@bbnccv.ARPA

Those of us outside Massachusetts have no idea who these people are, thus we have no idea of what you are talking about. Perhaps this discussion could move to net.politics, possibly with a distribution of 'mass' or 'east_coast' or whatever you have set up over there. "please?" I would ask that the discussion continue, at least on net.motss, because I think that we in the [lesbian|gay|bi|trans|women's|...] community need to be aware of the attacks against us and should be aware of the political figures involved in these situations. So, if you want, remove net.singles and net.kids, but continue net.motss, because we shouldn't have to wade through net.politics to read about issues directly affecting our lives. How do people out there feel about raising/adopting children. I have long wanted to raise a child or two children (perhaps adopting one and breeding the other in some kind of venture with a willing woman). I don't think I'm ready yet (at 22 years old, I'm still moving around a bit, and my income isn't as stable as I'd like it to be), but I'd like to hear from people who are raising children in a space safe for lesbians/gays/... What should I consider before doing it? What are the benefits and deficits? How much would societal repression damage the children? I WANT to hear what's going on in other parts of the country. It can affect things here because politicians are such a bunch of trend-followers; the happenings in Massachusets can afflict, er, affect us here as local yokels go into copycat mode. If you don't want to read about it, you know where the "n" and "k" keys are. Hutch (note that followup tampering has been revoked)
