[net.motss] Books on coming out to family

bothner@Shasta.ARPA (09/14/85)

Does anyone have any recommendations on books written
for the families of gay people? I am looking for good
book to give to my parents. I have seen a few of them
in bookstores, but have no basis for judging them
(except reading them all...)

[To put it in a personal context: This summer I dropped
various hints, finally forcing a confrontation with my
mother. (My father was away.) I am lucky in that my
parents are well-travelled, well-read, educated and
tolerant, and I know they are still proud of me even
if they don't approve of all I do. We interacted normally
for the rest of my stay, but she was clearly worried and
very uninformed the few times we discussed it.]

One book I saw a recent ad for is "Are You Still My
Mother? (Are You Still My Family?)" by Gloria Guss Back.
This is a trade paperback from Warner Books. Anyone
read it (or reviews of it)?

I will of course summarize any contributions by personal
mail. (By default, I will remove names and addresses.)
