The Boston annual science fiction convention is over. Compared to last year I felt this year's con had much more to offer. Perhaps that is partly due to my taking a hotel room this year so I could stay for the parties at night. I apparently didn't need to request assistence in organizing a gay panel or party. There was a gay con suite open 24 hours (more or less) with a party from 9 to about 3-ish I guess. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, and the few heteros who stumbled in by "accident" were civilized. I was able to engage in a couple conversations about gays and s-f. I met an old friend from my maryland high school days there. And we had an author or two in attendence. The con itself went well, though I suspect there will be some complaints from the hotel regarding a false fire alarm, toilet paper tossing, and noise. Perhaps a lot of the worst conduct can be blamed on gate crashers from nearby colleges. The costumed fans were out in force - your truly participating as well. And I managed to win the bid for the coveted "Bilbo Picks Up Sting" cartoon at the art show: Sting was the singer from the Police, not the elvish blade!
