[net.news.adm] Proposal for Music Synthesis News Group

klr@lems.UUCP (Ken Robbins) (12/14/84)

[]

Is this where one requests new news groups?

I would like to propose that a news group be created for music synthesis.
I would think that net.music.synth might be a proper classification.
This group could service two classes of information on music synthesis.
The first being issues concerning the use of commercial synthesizers in
terms of both music and technical concerns. The other class would encompass
the technical and research issues that form all of computer generated or
controlled music. These include synthesis algorithms, acoustics, hardware
implementations, software tools (e.g. composition languages) etc.
I believe that there is a large number of people that use the net that are
either "electronic" or "computer" musicians, or researchers (mostly in
universities) of music synthesis.

Discussion about new newsgroups does not belong in net.news.adm -- it
belongs in the net.news.group newsgroup.

Secondly, votes "yes" or "no" do not belong in published articles.
They should be mailed directly to the original proposer of the newsgroup.
If the proposer gets 20 or 30 "yes" votes, no convincing arguments against,
and if traffic in an existing group warrants, then that person should
create the group.

Have there been enough articles about music synthesis submitted to
net.music to justify its own group? I don't know -- I unsubscribed to
net.music a few months ago due to the volume of material. In any event,
would everyone please stop posting "votes" on new newsgroups? And please
move the discussion of a new music subgroup out of net.news.adm.
