Thanks to all those who responded to my questions about why my expire wasn't working. For those who may have similar problems, here is what I found: A normal "vanilla" expire will search the history file to see which articles exist and should be considered for expiration. In my case, we had several times when news failed because the file system filled up, and apparently articles showed up but didn't get into the history file. Using the '-h' option on the expire command tells it to ignore the history file and look at what's really there in the directory trees. The '-r' option on expire tells it to rebuild the history file and bring it up to date. Our expire now seems to be correctly deleteing old articles. Again, thanks to those who responded, and I hope this information helps others with similar problems. -- "My system is so slow we don't use 'who' anymore - it's faster to walk around the building and count the users."
