There have been a number of articles lately that specifically say "Distribution: nj", but have been distributed net-wide, or at least in California. Could someone in New Jersey please find out which machine(s) is(are) not handling these correctly? -- Carol Preston {hpda, ihnp4, allegra, ucbvax!dual}!fortune!preston (415) 594-2891 Fortune Systems, 101 Twin Dolphin Pkwy, Redwood Shores, CA 94065

I previously posted an article regarding the fact that my machine is receiving 'nj' distribution articles. Here are the 'headers' from 3 of the articles that were received. ---------------------------------------------------- From amdcad!amd!allegra!whuxlm!whuxl!houxm!piggy!pls Mon Apr 1 16:46:31 1985 Article 6401 of net.auto: ion: version B 2.10.2 9/18/84; site fortune.UUCP Posting-Version: version B 2.10.2 7/17/84; site piggy.UUCP Path: fortune!amdcad!amd!allegra!whuxlm!whuxl!houxm!piggy!pls >From: pls@piggy.UUCP (Peter Segal) Newsgroups: net.wanted,net.auto Subject: Good reliable car for sale in NJ - very reasonably priced Message-ID: <334@piggy.UUCP> Date: 2 Apr 85 00:46:31 GMT Article-I.D.: piggy.334 Posted: Mon Apr 1 16:46:31 1985 Date-Received: 2 Apr 85 11:31:22 GMT Distribution: nj Organization: AT&T Bell Laboratories - Holmdel, NJ Lines: 20 ---------------------------------------------------- From amdcad!amd!allegra!ulysses!gamma!epsilon!zeta!sabre!u1100a!sdo Wed Mar 27 11:20:46 1985 Article 6305 of net.wanted: ion: version B 2.10.2 9/18/84; site fortune.UUCP Posting-Version: version B 2.10.1 6/24/83; site u1100a.UUCP Path: fortune!amdcad!amd!allegra!ulysses!gamma!epsilon!zeta!sabre!u1100a!sdo >From: sdo@u1100a.UUCP (Scott Orshan) Newsgroups: net.wanted Subject: 3BR House For Rent - Piscataway, N.J. Here are the 'headers' from >3 of the articles that were received. The basic problem is that not all systems support distributions yet. Many/most/all? notes sites do not understand the concept, and old (A news, 2.9) versions of news don't either, so whenever such a system sees something like 'net.wanted, distribution:nj' all it cares about is the net and the nj gets lost. Because of this, things leak out. Sites that do catch distributions should/do catch many of these miscreants, but not all of them get caught. chuq -- :From the closet of anxieties of: Chuq Von Rospach, National Semiconductor {cbosgd,fortune,hplabs,ihnp4,seismo}!nsc!chuqui nsc!chuqui@decwrl.ARPA Become a druid- light a fire with someone you love...

It's pretty obvious to me from the headers you posted that the articles escaped from New Jersey to California via the allegra<->amd link. We had (and still have I hope) an agreement to get their nj distribution. (and they our ba distribution) What I don't understand is why amdcad appears to be passing it on to fortune. The sys file entry for fortune does not include nj. amdcad runs the latest publically available 2.10.2 news. -- Preverted word of the day: tribadism, to rub Phil Ngai (408) 749-5720 UUCP: {ucbvax,decwrl,ihnp4,allegra}!amdcad!phil ARPA: amdcad!phil@decwrl.ARPA

Can anyone point out the offender in the following distribution? (Perhaps mail to the offender -&myself?- would be the best -tactful- way to handle it..) It's got to make me wonder, though, how bad things must be in New Jersey! It seems like EVERYBODY is selling their cars, houses, and what-have-you.
