Is there a program somewhere that converts the lists of moderators posted to net.announce.newusers into a moderators file? -- The Maxwell R. Mayhem Institute for Quandary Requiem and Maternal Sciamachy Accept no substitutes.

While we're on the above subject, can someone explain the acceptable format variations for the moderators file? I have seen a couple of different format variations (some with moderator names and comments), all of which seem to work. At this time, our moderators file consists of the newsgroup name followed by a tab followed by the mail path, with a blank line separating each entry. Yes, I know I COULD study the postnews source, but well, you know... ==> Larry Lippman @ Recognition Research Corp., Clarence, New York <== ==> UUCP {decvax|dual|rocksanne|rocksvax|watmath}!sunybcs!kitty!larry <== ==> VOICE 716/741-9185 {rice|shell}!baylor!/ <== ==> FAX 716/741-9635 {G1, G2, G3 modes} duke!ethos!/ <== ==> burl!gladys!/ <== ==> "Have you hugged your cat today?" ihnp4!/ <==

I took a look, "check_mod" reads the moderators file line by line and "twosplit" is called on each line so the first field must match a newsgroup name, and whatever follows will be used as the mail destination. I suppose comments are OK if they are on lines whose first fields don't match any group names or if the mailer will know to ignore them. Any number of tabs or blanks can split fields. -- The Maxwell R. Mayhem Institute for Quandary Requiem and Maternal Sciamachy Accept no substitutes.
