About two weeks ago I asked if anyone is really using i-have/send-me, why, and what they fixed to make it work. As expected, no one is seriously using i-have/send-me. Roger Long of FileNet <felix!rlong> has tinkered with i-have/send-me but is waiting for 2.10.3 before doing any more work. (I hear that's going to be long wait.) Jerry Aguirre of Olivetti <oliveb!jerry> invented a new pair of control messages (avail/iwant) which are a batched form of ihave/sendme and implemented them in B news 2.10.2. (RFC 850 says that ihave/sendme take message-ID lists, but perhaps B news disagrees.) He says his avail/iwant is cheap, works with "F" batching and compression, and somehow eliminated one call-back turn-around. He has sent the mods to Rick Adams for inclusion in 2.10.3. (Note however that these are not in RFC 850.) (I note that Rick Adams is seen as the de facto news maintainer and would like to remind everyone that the correct address for the B news maintainers is cbosgd!uucp-news, not seismo!rick, as there are more people than just Rick maintaining news.)
