When I select the articles from the net that I am going to read, I find it most annoying that the header of the articles in the moderated groups does not contain the name of the person who contributed it, but only the name (not always) of the moderator. I would very much like the From: line to contain the name and identity of the contributor, and not the moderator. The Reply-To: should contain the address of the contributor, and the Followup-To: could contain the address of the moderator to avoid the need for maintaining the moderators list. Is that too much to be asked for? Another very disturbing point on the net is the may different formats of digests. I have a filter which breaks digests up into separate articles during reading, but it have had many problems with the many new digests that turn up everywhere nowadays. I thought that there existed some tools for building digests, because when I wrote my filter, all digests followed a common format: - Subject was repeated on first line, - articles were separated by --- lines - each subarticle started with a Date: line But this is certainly not the case anymore. Can anyone supply a BNF which covers all the digests on the net. (It should do better than <digest> ::= <char>* :-) ------------------ Kim F. Perhpas I am mistaken, but I thought there was an established digest standard format. At least I belive there is on on the ARPANET. I would hope that the non-arpanet digests would adopt it as well. Perhaps someone else can dig up this information for us. -- Stan Barber Netnews Administrator Teleco DST Opinions expressed here are mine only and do not in anyway reflect the opinions of Teleco Oilfield Services.
