Newgroup messages have been posted for two groups called "purdue.cc.engr109" and "purdue.cc.engr111". Since there has been no talk about creating a netwide distribution or top level classification called "purdue", this is obviously an error: something local that shouldn't have propagated. Since checkgroups is written to ignore top level classifications that it doesn't know about, on the assumption that they are valid local distributions, everyone (outside Purdue) that received these newgroups should now *not only* manually rmgroup the groups, but *also* rmdir the directories purdue/cc and purdue in their news directories. The newgroup messages were posted to subgroups of something called "mod.purdue", which is presumably also for Purdue only, and they probably propagated instead to all sites receiving mod.*, i.e. everyone on this side of the ocean at least.
