[net.misc] new VENIX: System-V v2 compatible!!!

dbr@cybvax0.UUCP (Douglas Robinson) (07/11/85)

(Sorry to those in net.unix-wizards who feel insulted... I feel that
this is of interest to all unix and some of you don't read net.micro
or net.micro.pc ... Also, there is no group for DEC Professional
discussions other than net.micro)

VenturCom is now releasing VENIX System V Release 2,
a new version of VENIX based on, and compatible with,
UNIX System V Release 2. VENIX 5.2 contains most
of the utilities supplied with UNIX 5.2, as well
as a number of Berkeley enhancements.
It's available now for PC-AT's, PC-XT's, and DEC Professionals.

	VenturCom can be reached at

	    {harvard,mit-eddie}!cybvax0!vcvax1!venix,

	or
		215 First Street
		Cambridge, MA 02142
		617/661-1230

NOTE: I have had a prerelease of this software and the overall package
is BIG! It barely fits on a PC-XT because the give you almost ALL of
the SVR2 stuff (I haven't found one missing yet!). For those of you who
have been suffering with VENIX-2.0 uucp, this is a BIG winner!!! The
PC-AT version runs in protected mode (as does the DEC PRO version)
although you can get a PC-AT kernel that doesn't run in protected mode
so that you can run UniSource's CONNECTOR product. Utilities for the PC
versions exist to read/write DOS compatible floppies.

NOTE: I am NOT an employee of VenturCom, but the company I work for IS
a distributer for them. I still feel that the above is unbiased since I
have also been one of their biggest critics when things go wrong!!!
