I like white characters on a black background. The black on white format causes the screen to be too bright, causing eye strain during a long session. I think that the less overall light the screen emits, the better. The white on black format is better, however, when reflections are a problem. Reflections can be partially overcome with a screen filter. The bottom line is that the "Best" format it a function of personal preference and environment. Terminals should be designed to be flexable enough to allow the user to chose the format that is best for the situation. David Gunderson decvax!microsof!fluke!dag

I personally like white on sky-blue. I have a 19" 4 plane 60Hz box that I mostly use for text (Tek 4113). I've tried various color combinations, but I gravitate back to white on warm blue. I do NOT like black on white. I feel like I'm squinting at it and I usually end up turning the brightness way down. Robert Reed, Tektronix Graphic Design Systems, ...!tektronix!tekgds!bobr
