2.1.5.3.7. Numbered Paragraph Headings
Numbered paragraph headings have become standard in UNIX-generated
documentation. It can be argued that, apart from their clear
advantage for cross-referencing, they are quite objectionable--
especially in user-oriented documents.
Is anyone aware of research aimed at measuring user preferences
in the matter?
Are there satisfactory alternative means for cross-referencing?
