Greetings! Here's some pop-up menu results I've reduced from data captured on my Tektronix Magnolia running 3-buttoned Smalltalk. Smalltalk menus pop up showing the previous choice selected for the window or the last item highlighted before moving out of the menu (eg, when it turns out to be the wrong menu, or the situation is discovered to be inappropriate). The times do not account for all the system overhead of displaying, data logging, and removing the menus. The clock resolution is 1/60th second. The relative average times and percentage of occurance may be useful, however. Average Menu Choice Time in % of total Result Seconds Occurances occurances --------------- --------------- --------------- ----------- Same selection as previous: 0.967 256 35.3 Different selection: 1.619 417 57.4 Wrong menu discovered: 2.447 53 7.3 Wrong menu to next menu selection: 23.590 700+ lines of raw data is your's to fool with. Its form is: Number of Menu item Millisecond Menu item Millisecond menu highlighted clock at selected clock at choices on pop up pop up selection ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ 8 7 7065467 7 7066150 10 8 7107317 6 7108850 Simply ask!
