North-Holland will be publishing a monumental tome called the Handbook of Human-Computer Interaction, edited by Martin Helander. Publication is tentatively scheduled for October, 1987. There will be sections on: Models & Theories User Interface Design Individual Differences Applications of Computer Technology Tools for Design and Evaluation Artificial Intelligence Education and Training Workplace Considerations Each section will have about 10 chapters, with each chapter written by a specialist. From the list of authors, this looks like it will be the best collection of basic work in CHI. I am writing a chapter called "Providing Designers with Tools." In this chapter, I would like to devote a section to survey the most popular and advanced tools for user interface designers. I would like to get your suggestions about what tools you think should be covered. Whether you are a user or vendor, I would like to get as broad a collection of tools, so please contact me. Don't worry about duplicating what you think other people will send me. Some criteria: should be public knowledge, because I will want to describe the tool can be a tool for PC's, CRT's, graphics, or even paper and pencil should be interesting, or widely used would be nice if the tool is an available product, or public domain it is fine to suggest things not related to UNIX -- Gary Perlman Wang Institute Tyngsboro, MA 01879 (617) 649-9731 UUCP: decvax!wanginst!perlman CSNET: perlman@wanginst
