I was told by my mother and grandmother that women started shaving their legs because of the nylon shortage during WWII. When nylons were scarce, women would shave their legs and wear leg make-up, drawing lines up the backs of their legs for seams!

Since opinions were requested, I'll add mine! I prefer the way women look who have hairy legs, mainly because stubble is ugly, hair is not, and besides, I applaud women who refuse to waste their time attacking their legs with a razor. Armpit hair, we don't see as much of except in situations where there are better things to look at. I don't think armpit hair is *pretty*, but it looks better than an *armpit*, anyway. And, again, stubble is no fun for anybody. Now, if Americans could do without makeup, wouldn't that be nice! What a messy way to cover up one's natural charm. Charles Perkins PS. Best of luck for this new newsgroup.

This is directed at rglvax!thanh. Unfortunately it looks like he won't get to see it. But for you guys who agree with him: Oh, so you say that women should shave their legs and men shouldn't, since women expose their legs at work and men don't? Where do you work? Where I work, lots of men wear shorts to work, especially now when it's so hot. And I work at the same place as Patricia Collins, the person whose piece inspired your flame. So bug off!
