I was at a garage sale Saturday at which there were a lot of toys for sale. Two little girls, maybe about 4 years old, were playing under a table. One was showing the other how to use a toy electric razor on her legs and assuring her friend that "Women shave their legs" like it was as great an adult privilege as kissing men and doing calculus. Just to show what a DISGUSTING society we live in. (My basic feeling is that my employer pays me enough to merit my doing a few basically unpleasant things like shaving my legs and wearing shoes, and anyone who likes shaving their legs is entitled to their little eccentricities (I find cleaning the kitchen soothing, so who am I to make fun), but corrupting kids is another matter altogether. pj

In a previous article P. Carstensen stated that the fact that she saw two little girls playing with a toy razor with one girl saying that "Women shave their legs" was evidence of a DISGUSTING society. Now I don't really care if a person (male or female) does or does not shave parts of his or her body. I do object to what I perceive as a sexist attitude by the author. I doubt that she would have had a similar reaction had she heard two little boys playing with a toy razor with one of them saying "Men shave their faces". If I am wrong on this I apologize. mas
