I find some of the arguments about the virtues or vices of wearing makeup a little hard to take. People who despise makeup say that women who wear it are trying to be someone else and are afraid to show the real "person" under the powder. I think this argument is a bit too psychoanalytical. Women are socialized to wear makeup.(Oh! "Socialized!" The flames are slowly rising.) This is not good or bad but it is the way things are. If we (society) are to change this we must change the way children are brought up. This means changing the way men perceive women since makeup is still the norm as far as women's fashion is concerned. But personally I wouldn't want to see the disappearance of makeup. I enjoy wearing makeup. I feel that makeup is a form of personal expression. I love the colors and the way makeup can complete an outfit. I also understand that this is a purely personal view and one not shared by many women. So I would appreciate if the people out there who don't like makeup (either wearing it or seeing it worn) would put in more constructive comments. I don't like being told that makeup is a waste of money, ugly, a fake, or a sign of psycological problems. We need more suggestions on how to make this society less judgemental of varying lifestyles, not useless and judgemental complaints that insult various segments of society. If you want to flame about cosmetics move to net.flame. I don't want to read it here. S.Badian BTL Piscataway
